The Ideology of Our Age - What You Don't Understand!
| There is a glaring anomaly in our society, which no
one ever mentions let alone provides an explanation for. A substantial number of people agree that a lot of very important ideas and facts are rarely if ever heard in the mainstream media of the English-speaking "free" world. They further agree that those who try to raise these matters often find their voices censored-out unheard. At best their viewpoints may be inadequately presented in brief "Letters to the Editor" snippets. They are also liable to be personally attacked and victimised in various ways. All these people can point to decisive sound evidence both in support of the viewpoints they advocate and in regard to their suppression by a dogmatic establishment. But the strange thing is that the picture presented in the preceding paragraph evokes diametrically opposite associations among the people concerned. The one set of heretics perceive themselves as being suppressed by an extreme leftwing Politically-Correct establishment. The other set of heretics perceive themselves as being suppressed by an extreme right-wing consumerism-capitalist free-globalised-markets establishment . The evidence in fact is decisively that in some "strange" way both phenomena are occurring simultaneously (for further details see the references at the end). But it really doesn't make sense does it, to say that heretics are being simultaneously suppressed by a leftwing establishment and a rightwing one? The reason why this does not make sense is because it is composed in the simplistic and obsolete mindset according to which everything is either left or right or somewhere in-between! To understand what is really going on we need to break through to a new paradigm of social understanding. Now just about everything said by the UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is worthless trash, but there is one crucial thing he says which demonstrably is true. Namely that there is a Third Way, which is neither left nor right nor some middle-of-the-road half-way house. What you will not hear Blair say is what that Third Way actually is - because it would be a far from vote-winning revelation. You will hear it from me though, because I'm a specialist in understanding society, rather than in power-grabbing. What the two categories of heretic have in common is that they both violate the sacred Truths of the tacit ideology of the Third Way, the all-ruling religion of our times, of which Blair is the Highest of High Priests. Not surprising that he preaches all those sermons, really? (Like his Arch-Deacon Giddens.) The best way to explain what the Third Way is, is to explain how it came about, or at least my very reasonable hypotheses of the matter. Some sociologists have advanced a notion of "occupational ideologies", which seems eminently plausible. For example, arms traders believe that "if we didn't do it someone else would, so it is not immoral", and probably also "arms help to keep the peace". The ideologies predominant in a society are liable to be a function of the occupations that predominate in terms of personnel and or economic power. The predominance of occupations is liable to change as circumstances change the ease with which money can be earned in the various ways. Examples of such changes are the growth of formal education as a normal activity, the development of elaborate manufactured goods, and of means of long-distance transport. Most notably, as major means of amassing profits there have emerged the following: selling goods, services and info/tainment to international/intercontinental markets, long-distance tourism via flying, and the provision of the technology, infrastructure and fuel for these longdistance activities. For convenience let us refer to all this lot as the Globalising Alliance or GA for short. It is pretty obvious what some of the occupational ideology of the GA would entail, and it is all too familiar to environmental campaigners! "Transport is a very good thing, we need as much of it as we can get"; "It is absolutely essential for economic well-being and employment"; Environmental and social concerns about increased transport are grossly exaggerated"; "People have a right to all the transport provision that they demand"; "A major duty of governments is to provide the maximal possible transport infrastructure to cater for the rights of motorists and air-travellers (and public transport users, but walkers can f... off)"; "Barriers to trade are economically damaging, and not justified by any environmental or social grounds"; ... (I could go on and on here.) But there is a significant something more to the GA ideology than the above. The more that local cultural differences are dissolved into a globe-wide standard, the more easily the GA can earn their profits with standardised products. They don't want the East Timorese living their East Timorese lifestyle, the Tibetans living their Tibetan lifestyle, the Chechens theirs, and so on. They want everyone (who can afford to pay) to be able to live in every country, so as to maximise their mass-marketing opportunities and also to increase the flying to see relatives on other continents and so on. So the GA ideology takes a decisively "left-wing" turn and adds that: "Ethnic/racial separation is bad, and multiculturalism is good"; "Multiculturalism has no harmful consequences, but leads to enrichment of life-experience"; "Hostility towards immigrants is a much more serious offence than hostility towards local indigenous people". At this point the growth of another major occupational group adds its impact, namely the formal education industry. The occupational ideology of those with careers in education is naturally that "Education has a major influence on people's development"; "It makes them more capable, more flexible, more critical and imaginative"; "Students' potential is not significantly determined by their genes"; "Likewise it is not affected by their racial origin"; "There are no racial differences in educatability, whether measured as so-called IQ or otherwise"; "Likewise regarding social/moral educatability there are no racial differences in disposition to crime or other personal defects"; ... (Once again, I could go on and on here.) In our society, splintered by extreme specialisation, the "leftwing" ideology of the educators and the "rightwing" of the profit-spinners may tend to get along separately, meting only at the Prime Minister. But, as already indicated, the whole Political Correctness ideology of multiculturalism is very convenient for the GA. And furthermore, the globalised education industry is very much a part of that GA anyway. I have observed a number of East-Asian students at one of the more prestigious universities in the UK. Their competence in English was not really adequate, but so what!, they were bringing in fat fees for the university, not to mention all the airfares and encouragement of the globalised outlook. So there you have it. The Third Way is the occupational ideology of the Globalising Alliance, reinforced in the psychological field by the Political Correctness ideology of the globalised mass education industry. It contains a very strong vein of wishful-thinking, such as the delusion that we can all be harmlessly and joyfully flying all over the place and luxuriating in a United Colours of Belleton nicely liberated from the very long history of inter-ethnic hatred. One could dream that Tony Blair will admit that all this is true, but somehow I guess he won't. While Mr Blair goes on smiling, massive damage is being done by policies that fly harshly in the face of the realities of the environment, society, and individual biological differences and universals.
